The Rangers in the Boarderlands are led by Captain Cormon Tanner, a native of the area who worked his way up through the ranks to his current position. Rumour has it that he has been offered several promotions, but has declined them as they would involve him leaving the Borderlands area.
The traditional 'Ranger' role continues under the command of Captain Frelaf. The Rangers under Captain Frelaf ensure the rule of law in the areas they patrol, and also work to keep the woods and forests free from the evils that seek to over run them.
Following several major threats to the Realms, Schannow sought to develope a new unit to work alongside the Rangers in a more mobile capacity. The Outriders are in essence mounted Rangers, led by Captain Merristem Silverleaf. Their mobility allows them to respond quickly to threats on the edge of Elven areas, and because of the large distances they cover they are ideally suited to gathering intelligence on potential threats to the Elven Kingdom, and the Western Realms as a whole.
Varn has recently headed Northwards with the intention of establishing a base in the borderlands, leaving the Dellgate branch in the hands of Master Scouts Connad Elendil, Terran, and Shion. The new Guild House is located in Vanguard, the largest town in the Borderlands, but there are small outposts appearing throughout the villages in the North. Due to their woodland skill and knowledge of the area, they are frequently hired to deliver the most important of messages and documents.
This guild is on good terms with most organisations, but has especially close ties with the Adventurers Guild and the Temple of Mystraya, as he is firm friends with Guild Master Brennos Le Breyos and the Lady Jessica.
The White Robes are led by Archmage Tescul.
The guild has especially strong links to the Scouts' Guild and the Churches of Silvantree and Garl Glittergold, but new link are being forged all the time.
One rumour claims that the Guildmaster often appears in the Western Realms disguised as an adventurer and that many would be assassins have discovered the guild by killing someone in sight of the Guildmaster himself. Of course, another states that the Guildmaster died many years ago and that a Council of Master Assassins now rule the guild, keeping the image a single Guildmaster as another layer of deception in which to cloud their true nature.
The Church of Mystraya is led by the Lady Jessica, High Cleric of Mystraya, and has been expanding from its base in Dellgate for many years now. It has stong links with the Scouts' Guild, and the Adventurers' Guild through the persoanl friendships of the Lady Jessica and the great need these groups have of the healing powers of the Mystrayan clerics.
The Royal Elven Rangers & Outriders
The Elven Rangers are a close knit group which developed out of a group known as 'Schannow's Renegades'. King Ilthanus realised that their woodland skill would be better employed working for the Elven Kingdom and so asked Schannow to use his group as the core for a new Elven Ranger organisation. Following it's success under Schannow and then Teminoe, the Elven Rangers have now developed into two seperate units. The Scouts' Guild
Established by Guild Master Varn Heartwood in Dellgate in 496, who remains the incumbent of the position to this day. This organisation provides training, resources and support for any budding scout who is willing to learn, whilst abiding by the tenets set down by Varn. This guild is much needed in the Borderlands due to the large number of trade caravans that roll through the land, and the increasing numbers of bandits in the area at this present time. A good scout that can warn of an impending ambush is worth their weight in Gold.
The Conclave & Magicians Guild
Led by the Conclave, the Magicians Guild oversees much of the use of magic in the realms. They set standard prices for the teaching of low level spells and conduct research into new spells and uses for magic. Members enjoy the benefits of increased access to magical knowledge, but are expected to work towards furthering our understanding of magic in all its forms. The increasing number of non-member adventuring mages is perhaps a result of the strict structure of this Guild.
The Conclave is made up of four members of each of the coloured robe groups. To provide a balance in the understanding of magic many members of the Magicians Guild choose a robe colour, White to represent Good, Restorative and Creative magics, Red to represent Neutrality, Elemental and knowledge based magics, and Black to represent Evil, Destructive and Domination magics. It is worth bearing in mind that whilst the Black Robed mages represent the darker side of magic, they are still committed to the success and stability of the Western Realms and will always work towards those ends (though their means may be a little different from those of the White or Red robes).
The Red Robes are led by Archmage Sutol and include amongst their number Archmage 'Raul the Red'.
The Black Robes are led by Archmage Sarlack. The Adventurers' Guild
Established by Sir Brennos Le Brayos and Sir Gladdi Maddlemoot, the Adventuers Guild was set up to provide support for the many people from all walks of life who make their living by taking on perilous quests too dangerous or strange for normal mercenaries. The main Guildhouse is in the port town of Dellgate, but in recent years a number of other have been set up across the Western Realms. The Assassins' Guild
Little is known about this secret guild, and that which is known is spoken of in hushed voices. Most are at least aware of its exsistance and its primary rule, 'No non members'. The guild spends much of its time and resources hunting down freelance assassins, and it perhaps for this reason that there has not been a concerted effort by the authorities to destroy this, technically illegal, organisation. The Church of Mystraya
The followers of Mystraya are some of the foremost healers in the Realms and the Temples and Sanctuaries of Mystraya are places of spiritual calm where people in need can seek healing and restoration. Dedicated to healing both physical and mental wounds the clergy of Mystraya are constantly researching new methods of healing under the watchful eye of their Goddess.
